MSC Cruises terminal – Barcelona

The cruise terminal at the Port of Barcelona, owned by MSC Cruises, has been designed by RBTA – Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura to create a spacious, comfortable reception and departure area aligned with the brand’s identity. In this context, our Season sofa, designed by Piero Lissoni, shapes the main waiting area through organic and functional forms.

The building is conceived as a trapezoidal volume with a rectangular base, featuring a single-pitch roof clad with solar panels, resulting in an energy self-sufficient structure. Under these principles, RBTA translates the company’s environmental objectives into the project, integrating them into the architecture and enhancing the overall passenger experience.

The different configurations of the Season sofa, in shades of blue and grey, create an open and comfortable landscape, with a subtle evocation of the maritime context integrated into the branding, accommodating up to 450 people. Its modular nature adapts to the changing flow of passengers, while the technical upholstery—durable, soft, and easy to maintain—responds effectively to the intensity of use. Elements such as integrated power outlets and a formal language that balances sculptural presence with functionality reinforce its role as a solution that engages with both the architecture and the user experience.
