Outdoor Maintenance

General Maintenance

This product has been designed and manufactured in a sustainable way and intended for a controlled outdoor use under porch or deck. All materials and processes used are of the highest quality.

Its use is not intended for extreme environments or climates, nor for marine environments, or exposure to saltpeter. Avoid placing the product in these environments.

Clean and maintain the product continuously to prevent the accumulation of dirt that can cause accelerated deterioration. Periodically wipe all surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. See the detailed cleaning procedure for each material. Never use abrasive or corrosive products for cleaning.

If the product gets wet, dry it immediately with a cloth. Do not place the waterproof protective cover on wet product.

Some materials such as thermo-polymers or wood can suffer a variation in tone over time, even in outdoor use under a porch. Avoid direct sun exposure.

It is necessary to use protective covers during periods of non-use or in extreme weather conditions. This cover should be removed periodically to aerate the product and prevent the appearance of mildew or dampness. If the use of covers is not possible, store the product in a protected place.

Products exposed to direct sunlight in high temperature areas, especially dark colors, can become very hot and can cause skin lesions on direct contact. Check product temperature before use on these occasions, any damage caused by poor maintenance will not be covered by the warranty.

Compact

Viccarbe’s outdoor table tops (Trestle, Maarten, Solar) are made of 12 mm compact board and are especially suitable for outdoor use. Thanks to its specific manufacturing process of sheets compacted under high pressure with phenolic resins, it prevents water and humidity from penetrating the core of the board, guaranteeing its longevity. This high compression also guarantees a high resistance to the intensive use of the board. Both the black and white finishes are highly resistant to UV rays.

Maintenance and cleaning

Although compact boards do not require special maintenance, they do require regular cleaning with a soft cloth, water and a neutral detergent. It is important not to use any abrasive elements such as sponges, scouring pads or metal brushes. Do not use any highly abrasive, alkaline or acetone cleaning products for stubborn stains. If in doubt, always test first on an inconspicuous surface of the board.

Spilled liquids should be removed as soon as possible, especially dark liquids such as coffee, cola, juice or wine. If they remain too long and dry out, they can cause permanent damage to the board.

In case of bird droppings, immediately clean up any remains to prevent their corrosive action from generating permanent stains on the surface.

Steel

We use steel for structures of tables, chairs and armchairs in different formats. We use high-quality and robust calibrated steel that allows us to pass the most severe quality and resistance tests. All outdoor steel structures have a specific outdoor coating, used in other industries such as the automotive, which protects the structure from the action of atmospheric agents. Furthermore, the subsequent lacquering in thermosetting polyester with UV treatment favors the conservation of the structure’s color for a longer period of time.

Maintenance and cleaning

Outdoor-treated steel structures guarantee a robust and resistant structure for intensive outdoor use on a continuous basis. However, continuous maintenance is necessary to keep the product in good condition. To do this, simply clean the structures regularly with a damp cloth and neutral soap. Never use abrasive or aggressive cleaning tools such as scouring pads or metal brushes.

Spilled liquids should be removed as soon as possible, especially dark liquids such as coffee, cola, juice or wine. If they remain too long and dry out, they can cause permanent damage to the structure.

In case of bird droppings, immediately clean up any remains to prevent their corrosive action from generating permanent stains on the surface.

Steel structures are designed to resist the action of water and humidity in controlled environments, but under no circumstances are they to be submersed in water.

In case of damage or scratches, please consult Viccarbe’s sales department.

In very extreme environments, apply petroleum jelly oil or car wax once every three months.

POLYPROPYLENE/POLYETHYLENE

We use the best performing, 100% recyclable and 100% recycled polypropylene in black for the Maarten chair and stool collection. We use polyethylene of similar characteristics for the bases of Burin tables. Both materials are resistant to water and humidity and incorporate a UV protective additive substance that prevents accelerated degeneration of the product’s color.

Maintenance and cleaning

For a longer product lifetime, periodically clean the surface with a soft cloth, water and neutral soap. Never use abrasive or aggressive cleaning tools such as scouring pads or metal brushes. Do not let dirt accumulate for a long time.

Spilled liquids should be removed as soon as possible, especially dark liquids such as coffee, cola, juice or wine. If they remain too long and dry out they can cause permanent damage to the surface.

In case of bird droppings, immediately clean up any remains to prevent their corrosive action from generating permanent stains on the surface.

Iroko

We use solid Iroko wood in the Common and Colubi collections. Iroko is a type of tropical wood that is very robust and rich in tannins, which makes the wood very resistant to atmospheric agents. It is a kind of wood with golden tones, with knots and veins that characterize the natural wood, and which, with the passage of time, can turn to gray and darker tones due to the action of the sun, humidity and rain. Small cracks and fissures may also appear in the wood with the passage of time. This is not a defect of the wood but a reflection of the movement of a natural and living material as is the Iroko.

Maintenance and cleaning

All our Iroko pieces are treated for outdoor use as a standard, which protects the wood against the action of UV rays and humidity. With use, the passage of time and atmospheric agents, this treatment gradually disappears and it is necessary to carry out continuous and adequate maintenance of the wood, treating it periodically with a specific oil-based protective treatment.

A small grey surface layer may occasionally appear. To remove it, simply polish the surface with very fine sandpaper, remove the dust generated and reapply the specific protective treatment according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Tapestry

For our outdoor collection, we have worked together with the best manufacturers of fabrics for outdoor-indoor use and all the selected fabrics comply with an effective UV protection as well as an unbeatable water and humidity resistance. All fabrics can be cleaned with water and neutral soap.

Please perform maintenance and cleaning according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. As Viccarbe cannot ensure that the maintenance has been carried out correctly according to the guidelines indicated, the cleaning of the upholstery is the sole responsibility of the end user and will not be grounds for complaint.

Spilled liquids should be removed as soon as possible, especially dark liquids such as coffee, cola, juice or wine. If they remain too long and dry out, they can cause permanent damage to the tissue.

In case of bird droppings, immediately clean up any remains to prevent their corrosive action from generating permanent stains on the surface.

Below we detail particular characteristics by manufacturer.

  • Sumbrella

The performance of Sunbrella fabrics doesn’t just start with the finish. Thanks to solution-dyed acrylic, they are integrated into the heart of each fiber to preserve the color and strength of the fabric despite cleaning, normal wear and tear and exposure to natural light.

Maintenance and cleaning

Sunbrella fabrics are stain resistant, so they offer long-lasting protection against splashes and dirt.

One of the best ways to preserve Sunbrella fabrics is to clean liquids and stains quickly before they become embedded in the fabric.

For a superficial stain

  1. Wipe up (do not rub) spilled liquids with a clean, dry cloth. For oil stains, apply an absorbent substance such as cornstarch and then wipe with a scraper.
  2. Prepare a cleaning solution by mixing water and mild soap or dishwashing liquid.
  3. Clean with a soft bristle brush.
  4. Rinse or wipe with a cloth carefully to remove soap residue.
  5. Allow to air dry.
  6. Rinse again and wipe dry with a cloth until all soap residue is removed.

For an embedded stain

  1. Prepare a solution of 6 cl of bleach and 1.5 cl of neutral soap per liter of water.
  2. Spray this solution all over the stain and wait 15 minutes for it to penetrate the fabric.
  3. Clean the entire surface with a sponge, clean towel or soft bristle brush.
  4. Rinse or wipe with a cloth carefully to remove soap residue.
  5. Allow to air dry.
  6. Rinse again and wipe dry with a cloth until all soap residue is removed.
  • SILVERTEX – SPRADLING

The Silvertex range of Spradling® is protected by PERMABLOK3®, one of the most effective defense systems against germs, stains and abrasion, two waterproof barriers that protect our fabrics. Follow the instructions and recommendations below for optimal cleaning and maintenance. For any type of stain, clean within 24 hours for up to 100% effectiveness. After this time, the effectiveness decreases to 50%.

Maintenance and cleaning

Daily or weekly cleaning

We recommend cleaning at least once a week to maintain the lifetime of the upholstery, prevent the accumulation of dirt, contaminants and the formation of permanent stains.

Clean the entire surface using a 1:9 mixture of liquid neutral soap and water. Do not use soaps or cleaning solutions containing alcohol, ketones, xylene, acetates or solvents (mineral/white spirits). Completely remove excess mixture with a clean, damp white cloth. Dry the surface.

For difficult stains:

  1. For coffee, juice, red wine, sauces, chocolate, fat, pencil and suntan lotions stains, remove excess spillage with a damp cloth. Clean with a 1:9 mixture of neutral liquid soap and water. Then rinse with water and dry.
  2. For make-up stains, use neutral pH soap directly. Wipe with a clean cloth or soft bristle brush, rinse with water and dry.
  3. For blood, urine, feces, and other more severe stains, use a 1:10 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry.

Note: For cleaning, use a soft white cotton cloth soaked with the recommended cleaning agent and rub the stain making 10 circular movements. Wipe dry with another soft white cotton cloth and check the results. Do not use brushes with metal bristles or sponges with abrasive or metallic fibers, as these can cause permanent damage to the fabric. Methods 2 and 3 are not recommended for daily cleaning.

After cleaning, rinse the area with water and dry with a clean, lint-free cloth. If chemical residues are not completely removed, they may cause discoloration of the fabric surface, thus causing this phenomenon to occur earlier in the product’s life cycle.

Never use

Solvents such as thinner, varsol, acetone, bleach, waxes, silicones or detergents and/or cleaners that are not pH neutral. Cleaning instruments such as plastic sponges, wire sponges or hard brushes cause permanent damage to the material. Do not draw pen or marker strokes on the products, the ink may be absorbed, which can cause a permanent stain.

  • CREVIN

Crevin fabrics are high quality fabrics and are designed to be enjoyed for a long period of time. In order to keep upholstered furniture in optimal condition, the fabric must be properly used and maintained. To ensure the best cleaning results, carefully follow the maintenance instructions in this guide. Regular cleaning and maintenance is essential. It prevents the accumulation of dust, stains and dirt, and it is the most effective way to maintain the original appearance of the upholstery.

Maintenance and cleaning

Crevin’s BORA BORA, FIJI and VITA fabrics are easy to clean and stains can be removed using a clean cloth and a solution of warm water mixed with a few drops of neutral soap. Periodic washing of the fabric is recommended for a longer lifetime of the product.

In cases of extreme dirt, Crevin fabrics can be cleaned in a 20% bleach solution. Bleach cleaning allows sterilization of the upholstery fabric, elimination of odors and removal of mold, mildew and stubborn stains. However, do not use bleach unless strictly necessary. Keep the product in good condition and you will avoid the need for bleach.

Cleaning instructions when using bleach

Light general cleaning (for disinfection and sterilization)

  1. Prepare a solution of 20% household bleach and 80% water.
  2. Using a clean sponge or cotton cloth, apply the bleach solution to the upholstery fabric.
  3. After cleaning, rinse the area thoroughly with fresh water to remove all bleach residue.
  4. Dry with a clean cloth and let dry at room temperature.

  1. Prepare a solution of 20% household bleach and 80% water and add a few drops of neutral or hand-washing detergent.
  2. Allow the solution to act on the tissue for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Remove the mildew stain by rubbing with a clean sponge or cotton cloth with the bleach/soap solution. Repeat the process if necessary. More detergent can be added to the solution.
  4. After cleaning, rinse the area thoroughly with fresh water to remove all bleach and soap residue.
  5. Dry with a clean cotton cloth and leave to dry at room temperature.
  • SERGE FERRARI – Batyline Elios

The patented Batyline Elios fabric combines the performance and durability of Batyline with a textured yarn to offer a unique level of softness and strength. Batyline Elios has passed the most demanding tests to guarantee a high performance design with special resistance to abrasion, UV rays and mold.

Maintenance and cleaning

Fabric is considered “dirty” when it shows visible marks.

These marks are the result of the progressive accumulation of small amounts of small particles deposited on the surface of the fabric by air or rain.

Other soiling is directly related to the use of the furniture (food, drinks, etc.).

BATYLINE ELIOS fabric is particularly stain resistant for 3 reasons:

  1. Batyline extruded yarns with Smart Yarn Technology have a perfectly smooth, non-porous surface appearance. This means that dirt does not adhere to the surface.
  2. BATYLINE fabrics do not retain much static electricity, which prevents dust attraction.
  3. The extruded PVC liner has a unique formulation. The anti-mold treatment allows a high resistance to micro-organisms and humidity.

Cleaning procedures:

  1. Dust the fabric: Using a vacuum cleaner and a soft brush, remove dust from the surface of the fabric. Avoid leaving any solid residue on the surface.
  2. Washing: Rub in a circular motion for approximately 2-3 minutes, using a soft brush or sponge and soapy water or neutral detergent. Always test beforehand on a hidden surface to check that the product used does not leave any marks.

For normal stains use water at a temperature of approximately 20 °C and a 5% concentration of soap or neutral detergent. For stubborn stains, use water at a temperature of approximately 50 °C and a 10% concentration of soap or neutral detergent.

  1. Rinsing: Rinse thoroughly with plenty of clean water (do not spray).
  2. Drying: Allow the fabric to air-dry.

Some stains may be difficult to clean by following the cleaning procedure described above. This procedure may not work for those cases where the nature of the stain requires the use of products that will destroy the fabric, such as stains resulting from vandalism graffiti. Before making a decision on your own, it is important to evaluate the need for such an operation. Please call for specialist help.

Products not allowed

As a general note, the use of solvents or abrasive cleaning procedures is prohibited. The resistance of Batyline textiles to chemical attack depends on many factors, such as the nature of the chemical agents (solid, liquid or gaseous), the temperature, the concentration and the duration of contact. In certain cases, a mixture of several components can generate a negative result even though each component separately would not give any problems.

For this reason, the following products are prohibited:

– Abrasive products of all kinds such as abrasive powder detergents, pastes, liquids, sponges, etc.

– Pressurized water (Karcher).

– Organic products such as the following: acetone, gasoline, benzene, diesel, fossil fuel, perchloroethylene, turpentine, toluene, trichloroethylene, petroleum.

– Non-organic chemicals such as ammonia, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, soda, caustic soda, bleach.

Frequency of monitoring and cleaning

The frequency of maintenance and cleaning depends on the following factors:

– The frequency of use of the furniture.

– The degree of exposure of the furniture to outdoor conditions.

– The vertical or horizontal position of the fabric.

– The degree of exposure of the fabric to dust.

Depending on the degree of exposure to these parameters, the recommended frequency of cleaning varies from 1 month to 1 year.

Note: In the event of a sudden stain due to a spill, for example, immediate action must be taken to remove it as quickly as possible.

Keep the fabric clean. Stains from sunscreen, wine, coffee, etc. should be cleaned immediately.

  • KVADRAT

Patio is an upholstery textile developed for outdoor use that offers exceptional color intensity. Designed by Karina Nielsen Rios, it is made with a high resistance TREVIRA CS yarn.

As a result of 3 years of intensive research, Patio is characterized by being water repellent and quick drying, resistant to chlorine, sea water, meteorological agents and flame retardant and developed with a clear environmental awareness as it is free of fluorocarbon. In addition, its technical characteristics give the fabric a soft touch.

Maintenance and cleaning

Regular cleaning is important to keep the fabric in its best condition and extend its life. Improper maintenance and accumulated dirt can affect the technical characteristics of the fabric. Vacuum the dirt and wipe off surface stains with a damp cloth and neutral soap.

Stain removal

If you act quickly, it is not difficult to remove spill stains and prevent permanent stains that may develop. Even so, Kvadrat does not guarantee complete stain removal.

First, remove any remaining liquid or dried-on debris with a spoon. Any solid debris should be vacuumed up before further cleaning. Liquids should be soaked up with a napkin or absorbent cloth. Remove non-greasy spots by gently rubbing with a lint-free cloth or sponge wrung out with warm water. Edge marks can be avoided by gently rubbing in a circular motion towards the center of the stain with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Remove grease stains using neutral detergents. We recommend always testing the stain removal agents on an inconspicuous area first, to see if it leaves any stains on the fabric. Be sure to dry the fabric completely before use.

These tips are recommendations and cannot guarantee complete stain removal. To ensure satisfactory results, especially for large stains, we recommend contacting a professional dry cleaner. It is important to indicate if the stain has already been treated.

 Professional cleaning

Regular maintenance and cleaning removes dirt before it settles into the fabric and damages the fibers. Proper maintenance can extend the life cycle of the fabric and reduce repair, replacement and substitution costs. It is generally recommended that upholstered furniture with contract use be cleaned 2-3 times a year. We recommend that you contact a professional cleaning center to ensure satisfactory cleaning results. The use of pH neutral carbon dioxide solutions is recommended for cleaning in order to avoid the use of soap. A professional cleaning center can also help develop maintenance schedules, which ensure that fabrics are properly maintained for maximum upholstery lifetime.
