Viccarbe renews its SCS Indoor Advantage™ Gold certification

2 October, 2026

We spend much of our day indoors: at the office, in hotels and restaurants, in classrooms, at home. The air we breathe in these places also depends on the objects that furnish them. That is why Viccarbe’s indoor seating and table collections have renewed their SCS Indoor Advantage™ Gold certification, which this year extends to a new group of products.

Air, the part of design you cannot see

The influence of design on society reaches beyond form. It extends to the quality of life people find in the interiors they inhabit. At Viccarbe, we see every piece as a balance of design, function, and the well-being of the person who uses it, and the air in a room is part of that well-being.

Some materials release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air of a room. Keeping those emissions below strict limits is a concrete way to support a healthy indoor environment, especially in the places where we spend the most hours.

What the certification guarantees

The certification is granted by SCS Global Services, a certification body accredited by ANAB (ANSI National Accreditation Board). Indoor Advantage™ Gold is the highest level of indoor air quality performance that SCS awards to furniture, and it assures that products meet strict emission limits for VOCs.

The certification is based on testing by independent laboratories against three international references:

  • The ANSI/BIFMA M7.1/X7.1-2011 (R2021) Furniture Emissions Standard.
  • The indoor air quality credits of the ANSI/BIFMA e3-2024 standard.
  • The California Department of Public Health CDPH/EHLB Standard Method (CA 01350) v1.2-2017, which for seating also covers school classroom settings.

Beyond testing, SCS audits the quality management system at our facility in Valencia and reviews the scope of the certification at each annual renewal.

What’s new in 2026

The renewed certification is valid from September 6, 2026, to September 5, 2027, and includes two collections introduced this year:

  • Missiva, by Luca Pevere, in its sofa, lounge chair, bench, and low table versions. The designer’s first collaboration with Viccarbe, it is a system built around the idea of connection. It begins with a sofa that becomes an lounge chair,, pouf, or bench as arms and backrests are added or removed, and is completed by a family of low tables. Its name refers to the seam that runs along the piece, recalling the flap of an envelope.
  • Vetona, by Rubén Mateos Brea, a side table whose height adjusts freely between 50 and 72 cm (19.7 and 28.3 in). Placed beside sofas and lounge chairs, it serves as a surface for different uses, from compact settings to larger areas.

The certification also covers the new dimensions of Foro, Burin, and Cambio. It also includes new finishes and options for collections that were already certified: chrome finishes for Noha, Perxa, Quadra, Maarten, and Aleta Executive; the cantilever base for Noha; new colors for Trestle, Trivio, Maarten, Cambio, and Burin; and compact tabletops in white, beige, and carob.

For architects and interior designers

Certified products also meet the low-emitting materials criteria for furniture of USGBC LEED 2009 and v4, as well as CHPS 2009 (EQ2.2.3). Certificates SCS-IAQ-11049 (seating) and SCS-IAQ-11050 (tables) can be downloaded from the Professional Area.

A good interior is also measured by what you cannot see. The air in a room is part of how that room is lived in, and we keep working on it with every collection
