Viccarbe receives the Medal of Gratitude from the City Council of Valencia

29 May, 2025

On the afternoon of 28 May, the Mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, awarded the City of Valencia’s Medal of Gratitude to Viccarbe, among other companies. This recognition was granted for the significant display of solidarity shown following the Campanar building fire in February 2024.

The emotional ceremony, held at the Palau de la Música, served as a moment of gratitude and remembrance for the victims. During the event, the medal was individually presented to representatives of the 67 honoured entities, with Daniel Benedito, Managing Director of Viccarbe, receiving the insignia. Mayor Catalá highlighted “the selfless drive and willingness to contribute and collaborate” demonstrated by companies, hotels, businesses, social entities, foundations, and professional associations in the aftermath of the tragedy.

For Viccarbe, receiving this Medal of Gratitude is a profound honour, as it reflects our deep-rooted connection to Valencia and our commitment to human values. As emphasized during the ceremony, this is “the first time in democracy” that these medals—created in 1957 and first awarded in 1958 to acknowledge assistance following the historic flood of the previous year—have been bestowed again. The absence of further precedents underscores the significance the city places on this distinction, which is more than just an award; it is a gesture filled with meaning, sentiment, and dignity.

Our strong ties to Valencia, social awareness, and prioritization of human values drive us to contribute our part, as we did following this tragedy and the DANA storm on 29 October. At Viccarbe, people are always at the centre of everything we do.
